A fine tribute to a great player.

The news has meant that the debate has started about De Bruyne's position in City's pantheon, a thankless task since 2010, nevermind previous generations.

I have my own view that will probably remain until my dying day, but this link from Simon Curtis is the most relevant to De Bruyne. See what you think.

I didn’t read the attachment tbh as I honestly think it’s a bit futile to compare players who’s careers were 30 plus years apart ! I loved Colin and I love Kevin and saw the former play between 1968 - 79 and the latter in the past decade . They are slightly similar in style but that’s about it imho .

Great article. True legend and completely irreplaceable, in much the same way as Yaya. Very different players, but both did things with a football that no other player could.

Brilliant article Dan. A brilliant servant to our club, one of the best midfielders ever. The last home game is certainly going to be a very sad one, handkerchiefs at the ready.

Brilliant and worthy piece Dan to our very own King Kevin. Watching him has been an absolute pleasure, and I can recall many a game where the fans around me at the stadium woud say we need a KDB moment now. He was either on the bench or injured during these times, but boy did we miss his genius. His final words to the fans upon his leaving at the end of the season showed not ony what a wonderul footballer he is but also a humble and truly nice human being. He will always be a Blue in the fans eyes and will leave with our love but most of all our admiration and respect. Oh Kevin de Bruyne !!!!!!!!!

Fantastic piece young sir and words are not really enough to sum up kevs decade at city . His arrival attracted the usual vitriol from so called experts , merson and his Pinocchio partner Thompson at sky being just two of many . But he had pretty much proved them wrong in his first season which was probably more steady than spectacular and as you say he really kicked on when pep arrived . Of course us blues are biased but the facts speak for themselves over the past decade or so ….WHO ELSE has won the league with 100 points / 100 goals in a single season OR won a domestic treble which had never been done previously OR won a pure premier league / FA cup / champions league treble ( the pure bit being city competed in the CL as English champions) who else indeed ? As for him being the greatest ever foreign player since the premier league started , well he is definitely in the top 5 with Henry , David Silva , Yaya and zola imho .
